Rush Limbaugh was recently looking to take part in the purchase of an NFL team and was declined due to his racist remarks in the past. In an article discussing the reasons why the NFL rejected his offer, it was stated that 78% of the NFL is black.
This isn't an officially-kept statistic. Also, it's hard to answer - do Black Hispanic players like David Ortiz or Carlos Delgado count as "black?" What about biracial players like David Price, Derek Jeter and Grady Sizemore? According to Foxnews, it is 10.2%, but I think that just includes Black Americans (which is probably what you're asking about anyway).
Hope that helps
The number of Black players in MLB remained relatively stable from 1977 to 1987 – and then the well nearly dried up. Today, the number of African-American players sits at an all-time low of roughly 7 percent.
