Modern Baseball
Baseball was brought to the United States by British and Irish immigrants in the late 1700's, but the first team to play baseball under modern rules were the New York Knickerbockers in 1845. It was adopted as a national pastime during the last half of the 19th century.

Alex and Co. later elaborated the rules to make it a much more interesting game. The game of town ball was thought to be originated in Manhattan at his fire station at 47th Avenue and 27th Streets. The first recorded game was played on June 19th, 1846, where the New York Knickerbockers (Alexander's team) were mauled by the New York Nine, 23-1.
