Why is Alan Iverson a waste of time and money?

The answer is yes and no. It depends on which part of his career you want to reflect on. 1st half - no. Last half - yes, considering his conflicting ambitions.

During the time of the draft, he was the best player at that time, and for the first half of his career, he lived up to the hype. He had such a huge impact that his Sixers went all the way to the finals in 2001. After that, there were some injuries to some key reserves that disrupted the team's chemistry and I thought the team could never recover from that.

That team was built around Iverson's play but unfortunately, it's hard to build around a player of his personality and got even harder as his age and health started to catch up with his "reluctance" to buy into the team concept. If he is willing to come off the bench, he'd be like a Leandro Barbosa of the past Suns teams. If he insists on starting, then he'll have think pass first more often.

He's not a great outside shooter and he's lost a step or two so if he needs to be so ball dominant, he needs to play a more traditional point-guard role.
