Not necessarily. Critical path analysis determines the longest path through a network of project activities, because the main purpose of understanding the critical path is to focus effort on activities that lie on this path, thus increasing the chances of finishing the project on time. If you solely only focus on the critical path activities, then chances are that the activities not on the critical path will soon be on the new critical path because you haven't taken sufficient time to focus on all the activities. Project control should focus on the project as a whole, however more emphasis can be placed on the critical path activities as well as any risky/uncertain activities that could (if not monitored closely) eventually become a critical path activity and push the end date out even further.

Who is the most important project stakeholder and what is the top project success factor?

The most important project stakeholder is not a constant and depends on the project. One might say it's the client, but it's not always the case. Project Success Factors are: On time, within budget and scope.

Difference between Research and Development Project Management and conventional Project Management?

R&D Project Management is characterized by using (almost always) an iterative approach. Conventional Project Management is not restricted to any approach/methodology.

What is project cost management?

The primary goal of project cost management is to estimate the cost and to complete the project within the approved budget. This is one of the important activities because our bosses wouldn't approve if we exceed our approved budgets and it might have severe repercussions. Not to mention, finishing a project within budget with money to spare will always help you during your own appraisal! Cost management includes the following components: 1. Estimate cost - Develop the cost of the resources needed to complete the project, which includes schedule activities and outsourced/procured work. 2. Determine budget - Aggregate the costs of individual activities to establish a cost baseline that includes timing. 3. Control cost - Monitor and control the cost variance in the project execution. i.e., the difference between the planned cost and actual cost during execution, as well as changes to the project budget.

They are:Planning the Project ScopePlanning the Project ResourcesPlanning the Project SchedulePlanning Quality & Risk ManagementEach of these 4 phases is equally important and have a significant impact on the success of the project.

Is the critical path always the longest path?

The critical path is the sequence of activities that takes all dependencies into account. Thus, it determines the duration of the project, and is necessarily the longest path.

Can there be no slack time in a critical path network diagram?

The critical path is the set of activities that can't be put off -- they determine how long the project will take overall, and a delay in any of these activities will delay the project. You can always put off the slack, however, without increasing the total duration of the project. So the answer is "Yes, there can be no slack time in a critical-path network diagram."

What are the planning theories in project management?

Some key planning theories in project management include the Project Planning and Control (PPC) theory, Critical Path Method (CPM), and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT). These theories emphasize the importance of scheduling, resource allocation, and monitoring progress to ensure successful project completion. By utilizing these theories, project managers can effectively plan, execute, and control project activities.

How do critical path charts helps to analysis and manage the problems caused by delays?

Critical path method - This is the schedule network analysis technique used to identify the schedule flexibility and the critical path of the project schedule network diagram. The critical path is the longest path (sequence of activities) in a project schedule network diagram. Because it is the longest path, it determines the duration of the project and hence the finish date of the project given the start date. The second important feature of the critical path method is to identify the flexibility in the project schedule by calculating the early and late start and finish dates of each activity on each path. The schedule flexibility of an activity is measured by the positive difference between the late start date and the early start date for the activity and is called float time or total float.Note: Each activity on the critical path will always have a float time of '0'. This is because we have calculated the early/late start dates based on the critical path estimate and the other paths obviously don't take that much time and hence can afford the float time whereas the critical path activities cannot.Trivia:Each activity on a critical path has zero float time and therefore poses a schedule risk. So, you must monitor the activities on all critical paths very closely during the execution of the project.

Is the critical path important if only one person is working in a software project?

Yes, it's difficult to handle all things at a time like coding, designing forms and as well as documentation... always prefer to work in team..that will better and you will complete your project sooner. Critical path is usually used to define the tasks that need to be completed in order to complete a project. Depending on how good the software developer is, it could take them a short time to do each of the tasks, or a long time, or worse still take further time to find and correct any problems, so critical path is very important on any project, irrespective of how many people are assigned to the task.
