Answer . Hey Mitch ==Probably a bad ground on the lights. Check it out. GoodluckJoe.
The 1999 Chevrolet Malibu brake light switch can be found beneaththe dashboard, next to the brake pedal. The brake light switchsimply plugs in and out.
Answer . \nI had this happen to mine, I couldn't figure it out. everything seemed fine. I finally narrowed it down to the switch. Its the whole assembly in the steering column. Once I replaced it ( about 2 hours work) everything works fine. If you need more info firstname.lastname@example.org
Start by inspecting the bulbs that don't light. Remove the bulb and make sure the contacts aren't corroded. If not corroded, change one bulb and test. If it doesn't work with the new bulb, then check the fuse(see owner's manual for which fuse is brake lights). If none of this works, check the activa…ting switch located on the brake pedal arm. = New The brake light in the rear window and the main brake lights are on a different circuit. After the signal leaves the activating switch on the brake pedal arm, it splits. One circuit goes straight to the high mount brake light, the other goes into the turn signal switch. If the rear turn signals work but the brake lights don't, suspect the turn signal switch, not the bulbs and wires. Better to check this before removing and checking bulbs, wires and fuses. It is a common problem with the W-body cars like Lumina, Monte Carlo, Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass and Pontiac Grand Prix. (Approx 94-99 models). Part number is GM 190005031 (w/o radio accessory control) or 19005032 (with radio controls) == go to www.tss.likeabigdog.com = ( Full Answer )

What do you do if your 2001 Ford F150 tail brake lights rear blinkers and flashers don't work but the front ones do if the fuses are not blown?
Answer . \nTry chasing the ground wire down in the back bc they are usually all grounded with same wire. They sometimes corrode rather quickly.

Answer heat sensitive . \nive had the same problem. my rear speakers are heat senritive. they only work when the sun is shinning down. dont understand why this happens tho.
try accessing it from the inside of the trunk, if not that there should be some screws holding the fixture in place, undo those to remove it and the bulb will be right there
Remove the tire and wheel from your 2002 Chevy Malibu. Remove thebrake spring and the brake caliper. The brake shoes will come off.Reverse the process to install the new brake shoes.
Answer . \nWell, the same thing happened to me not too long ago. It turned out that inside the right rear panel there is some sort of switch, wire or??? I had some things bouncing around back there and they must have hit that panel. I went back there and started banging on the panel (with the ac… in the on position) and to my suprise it started working again. If I continued to bang on it the ac would shut off again. I didn't open the panel, so I don't know what is in there. Of course if that doesn't work you can always check your fuse boxes (one in the engine compartment and the other in the dash on the drivers side). ( Full Answer )
Why on an 83 el camino do the brake lights come on with the headlights and stay on but wont come on when the brake is depressed and the blinkers dont work in the rear either info?
Answer . sounds like the brake switch is not working properly. it is located behind the foot brake control arm. most have to be adjusted to work right. sound also like the wiring has been reversed in the rear at the lights. The other thing to check is the flasher unit. it may be one problem or it… could be several at the same time. It could be a bad ground connection for the lighting wiring harness. check that first. hope it helps. duboff. The park light circuit can connect to the brake/signal circuit by dropping a broken element inside a lightbulb,, it's rare, but I have seen it twice in 25 years.. The tail-lights are supposed to come on with the lights. The brake lights have a second element to make then light even brighter when the brakes are activated. So there is off, primary on and then secondary on. You need to check your brake fuse first; usually marked TAIL LAMP, BRAKE, or STOP. If it's not stamped what's what then a user or shop manual is helpful. You can also pull each fuse and visibly check them for a broken link. Likewise you can swap any two fuses of the same voltage and note any changes. Crawl down near the pedal and play with the brake switch as mentioned above. When the pedal travels the button pops up and closes the circuit thus turning on the brake lights. Wiggle the connector and see if anything changes. Try jumping the contacts on the connector with a wire and see if it works. If you get it to work it may need to be cleaned or replaced. Then make sure the pedal and switch are adjusted to come on and turn off at the right time. One last thing is to make sure you have the right bulbs in there. If someone put side marker or parking light bulbs in then it won't have a secondary stage of brightness. Lastly, you need to check the fuse for the signals, and the flasher switch that plugs in under the dash or fuse panel. The older ones are round and the newer are square. Usually have a couple prongs to plug them in. If you can't find it just buy a new one at your local parts store and don't try it until you check yours. Most won't take a return if you install the part. If you are not seeing the blink indicators on the dash at all it is possible the turn signal switch inside the steering column is bad. You have to remove the steering wheel to get to it. This part is broken on many older cars, often called the turn signal cam. I know the frustration trying to fix wiring someone got mixed up before you owned the car. If all else fails take it to an automotive electrician or get ready to start replacing the harnesses, switch and the whole kaboodle! Just my lengthly two cents. ( Full Answer )
How to Change tailights on 2005 Malibu & Malibu Maxx. On a 2005 Chevrolet Mailbu 2.2L 4 cylinder. REMOVE TRUNK LINER: Open your trunk. On whichever side you are changing, locate and remove the two plastic nuts by hand. Pull back the trunk liner and there will be two more plastic nuts securing th…e tail light assembly in the trunk area. Remove those two plastic nuts, by hand as well. REMOVE TAIL LIGHT: Now, look at the tail light (outside of the trunk) and you will see a black plastic piece, that attached and secures the tail light to the car body. Find the black Philips head screw and remove. REMOVE BULB: Tail light assembly should become loose. Pull the assembly gently away from the car body. You have reach the light bulbs, twist the light assembly to remove the dead bulb. Pull whichever bulb needs to be changed and remove wires and replace wires on to new bulb and push back in bulb and then screw all plastic pieces back on. REVERSE PROCESS TO FINISH. On Malibu Maxx models (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007) with hatchback, there are no wing nuts! Do not remove plastic trim inside rear quarter panel. Remove the two Philips head screws. The lower portion of the tailight assembly will still be fixed to the vehicle. Pull firmly to un-snap third and final fastner. You may want to insert a putty knife at the height of the backuup light. A couple things can cause your right side brake light to stopworking. The most common cause is a burnt out lightbulb. A looseground wire can also cause it to stop working.
Open the truck & remove Philips head screw that is located to the left of the tail light housing in the trunk lid weatherstripping housing area. Next unscrew the trunk lining screw to fold back the trunk lining to get at the two plastic wingnuts that hold the light housing. Unscrew these two wing nu…ts and slide the housing out, then remove the bulbs and replace. Bulbs come out similarly to how you'd replace the front headlight bulbs (unplug, twist counter-clockwise to unlock and remove old bulb, replace with new bulb and turn clockwise to lock, plug back in). Both your brake lights are out in the rear of my 1998 Chevy Blazer but the rear high brake light works fuses are good?
I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer with the same problem I traced the stop light wires back to the turn signal assembly. By taking the steering column plastic off you use a torx bit and a pair of vise grips to get the bolts out of the turn signal assembly. Otherwise GM says you need to pull the steering whe…el . They still recommend you pull the airbag fuse. I pulled the fuse and disconnected the battery. I found a slightly melted connector behind wiring connection point. With a replacement turn signal assembly the brake lights now work. Be sure to find a aftermarket or salvage yard switch due to GM wanting alot of money for OEM. ( Full Answer )
What is wrong when my blinker and brake lights do not work in the drivers side rear and the front blinker on the drivers side blinks 2 to 3 times to fast on a 2001 cavalier ls.?
Your drivers side rear bulb needs replaced. Open the trunk, unscrew little plastic black thing on left side, to pull back carpeting, follow wires going to light socket, grab the plastic that the wire go into and turn a little bit, it will come out and you will see the bulb, Pull the bulb out.
The most problematic cause is that if your brake pads/shoes are worn down to the changing point. Other causes can be that your rotors/drums are glazed (due to overheating) and or simply brake dust and other road debris.
That bulb is burnt out. When the circuit is not completed like with a blown bulb, the flasher unit will blink faster to let the driver know something is wrong with that side. It should only be faster with the side that is burnt out.
How do you diagnose the rear brake lights not working on a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer when the third brake light in the window works?
Check under the rear left seat in the fuse panel. Replace the 15 amp fuse for the stop lamps, you can locate its position by looking in your owners manual.
Just because I had one in the past (2004 malibu) I would say that I has something to do with the fuse that works for the turn signal and brake light. Because for them both not to be working I would doubt that it was a bulb. Just my opinion. Of course you should get it looked at.
The instructions on how to reset the brake maintenance light in aChevrolet Malibu can be found in the owner manual. It can be viewedfor free at Chevrolet's official website.
It sounds as if the fuel filter is clogged and not getting enough fuel to the injectors.
2000 Chevy S10 pu brake lights wont work but third brake light works fine Bulbs replaced Blinkers work and main lights work you have looked for broken wires im at a loss please help?
We just had the same problem with a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. It turned out to be the turn signal/hazzard switch. Good Luck!
probley your fuse on your car/truck is blown to check step one : you find your fuse box. step two: you find the blinker fuse. step 3: pull it out look in it and if you see a crack in the bar across the fuse the fuse is blown.. hope this helps
check to see if there is a problem in brakeing system. might just be low fluid in master cylinder.

The calipers do not just compress down on the rear disk brake, they have to be screwed in clockwise because of the parking brake system. Turns out there is a special tool you can purchase, called a Disc Brake Piston Tool its about $12.00, but if your in a bind you can use a pair of needle nose plier…s to insert in the notches and screw the caliper in clock wise. I also had to use a pair of channel lock to start screwing in the caliper. ( Full Answer )

97 Pontiac Sunfire with a rear right blinker problem I have replaced the bulb. The brake lights work tail lights work hazards work but the right blinker isn't working. Checked fuse also fine?
try replacing the flasher. there should be two, one for flashers and one for turn signals
It would be against the law for a motor manufacturer to fit a light which could cause the brakes to fail.
Why would a 2006 Chevy Malibu ltz brake lights stay on while I'm not pressing the brake but turn off when I am pushing the brake Along with my cruise control stopped?
just had this problem on my "new to me" 06 malibu. There is a tsb about this issue and it has nothing to do with the brake switch by the pedal everyone talks about. It's another connection over on the passenger side. Also fixes interlock problems trying to pull shifter from park. Will get tsb number… and let you know Sat, Oct 24 ok here is what I found, #08-05-22-009: Intermittently Brake Lights (Stop Lamp) Do Not Function Correctly, Extended Travel to Shift Out of Park, Cruise Control Inoperative, DTC C0161/C0277 Set (Perform Repair as Outlined) - (Dec 4, 2008) Subject: Intermittently Brake Lights (Stop Lamp) Do Not Function Correctly, Extended Travel to Shift Out of Park, Cruise Control Inoperative, DTCs C0161/C0277 Set (Perform Repair as Outlined) Models: 2004-2007 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx 2008 Chevrolet Malibu Classic 2005-2009 Pontiac G6 2007-2009 Saturn AURA --------------------------------------⦠Condition Some customers may comment that intermittently the brake lights do not function correctly. Other symptoms may include extended pedal travel required to shift out of PARK, cruise control does not function correctly, and DTC C0161 and/or C0277 may be set. Cause The most likely cause of this condition is high resistance due to terminal fretting corrosion in the body control module (BCM) C2 connector (specifically pins C2-18, C2-31 and C2-59). Correction DO NOT replace the BCM for this condition. Disconnecting the C2 connector, adding dielectric silicone grease and reconnecting the C2 connector per the procedure below will correct the high resistance condition due to terminal fretting corrosion. Remove the right side front floor console side trim panel to access to the Body Control Module (BCM). Locate the C2 connector on the BCM. Unlatch the C2 connector and disconnect the C2 connector from the BCM. Reconnect the C2 connector back on the BCM and re-latch. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 (this step cleans up the terminal fretting corrosion). Using the Tech 2®, verify the brake pedal position sensor (BPPS) voltage is between: ⢠0.88V - 2.11V (for 2004-2006 model years) ⢠0.73V - 1.47V (for 2007-2009 model years) Check for proper operation of the brake lights. ⢠If the brakes lights are operating properly, remove the C2 connector again from the BCM and proceed to Step 8. ⢠If the brake lights are not operating properly, proceed to Step 12. Apply dielectric lubricant (clear gel) GM P/N 12377900 (In Canada, use P/N 10953529) on the BCM C2 pins (apply with a one-inch nylon bristle brush) on all the C2 connector pins (this will treat the pins against fretting corrosion). Reconnect the C2 connector back on the BCM and re-latch. Reinstall the right side front floor console side trim panel. Using the Tech 2®, check that the BPPS ratio is equal to BPPS learned home when the brake pedal is not depressed. ⢠If they are equal, brake lamps should be operating correctly and no further steps are necessary. ⢠If they are not equal, perform the Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration procedure in SI to complete the repair. Check the brake lights for proper operation. If incorrect, refer to SI and perform normal diagnostics. Source(s): gm tech ( Full Answer )
not likely!! problem is probably adjusters stuck !!on rear brakes,if the adjusters were not stuck then whenever you back up they should adjust them selves.
could be weak return springs, or a broken spring. if springs, put on new ones. they are not that much at a auto parts place.
Nonfunctional Brake Lights . One possible cause of this issue is that the brake light switch is not adjusted properly, or the switch could be defective.
My rear window brake light works, but not my tail light brakes on my 1997 Monte Carlo. What is the problem?
I was driving behind my sons 1997 Chevy Malibu and notice no brake light coming on. Fuse is fine. Both Bulbs are always on. Does a 1997 Chevy Malibu have rear brake lights?
yes they have brake lights and you probably have a bad brake light switch which is on top of the brake pedal under the dash.
open trunk and look behind the taillights as the bulbs just twist and pull out.
Why would a 88 Chevy truck have rear running lights working but brake lights and rear turn signal lights not working?
Brake Lights Don't Work The brake lights and turn signals are on a separate circuit of their of their own and thus independent of the tail lights and side marker lights ["running"] lights. There could be several causes for this problem, and without being able to see and troubleshoot the brake ligh…t wiring circuit no one can tell you the specific cause. Some of the possible causes include : . Brake light switch is not adjusted properly. . The fuse for that circuit is "blown" out. . A wiring harness connector anywhere in that circuit has become unplugged, or loose. . The ground wire or wires for that circuit have become disconnected, or the connection of the ground wires to the vehicle's grounded body sheet metal has been blocked by corrosion. . A wire in the circuit has been cut, broken, or pulled loose. . The brake light switch has become defective. There are probably a few other causes I have forgotten about. ( Full Answer )
Changing brakes is easy. Lift the car, remove the wheel, brake shoeand brake pad, next put in a new brake pad, replace the brake shoeand tire, then lower the car.
NO Brake Lights Because neither brake light works, it is unlikely that it's due to burnout of all of the bulb filaments at the same time. Without doing a "hands on troubleshooting" of the brake light circuit no one can tell you what specific defect is causing the problem. However, here are som…e of the possible causes you need to check for: The fuse for that circuit has "blown." The Brake Light switch mounting is not properly adjusted. A connector plug somewhere in the circuit has become "unplugged," or loose. A conductor [wire] somewhere in the circuit has been cut, broken, "pinched," or pulled apart. Corrosion has occurred inside any one or more of the connector plugs, or at any connection/splice, in the circuit. Corrosion can "block" the flow of electrical current just the same as if a wire were cut. The brake light switch has become defective [this is usually the "last" thing to fail]. There are probably a few more that I can't think of now. Good luck! ( Full Answer )
2001 ford explorer sport trac and the rear blinkers dont work and the third brake light doesn't work what is my problem?
coroded battery posts, a fault in the wiring, a ground not connected, ennie meenie miney moe...
Your brake lights and blinkers stopped working but the fuses are all ok Any suggestions on what it might be?
Presumably if both stopped working at the same time the bulbs are okay, but worth checking. The fuses might be fine but the actual connection between wires might be loose/disconnected.
Why do my 2007 kia spectra ex front parking lights not work All other lights work just fine incl Blinkers brakes headlights but no running lights in front rear parking lights work too im stumped?
I have the same problem and was told the the DRL resister under the hood needed to be changed but that didn't work. The next thing is to replace the bulb, but in order for that to happen you would have to take the entire headlight out. There are 2 screws on the top that need to come out and another …lock nut in the back of the headlight, this is the easy side - passenger. The driver side the battery have to come out. It could be a couple of things. On some vehicles, if one of the bulbs burn out in the taillight or turn signal circuit, both will stop working, but only on that side of the car. Some cars also have the brake lights wired through the hazard flasher, which if malfunctioning, can cause problems for bot…h circuits, on both sides of the car. ( Full Answer )

Could be as simple as a burnt out fuse or as complicated as something wrong with your car's computer or electrical system. I would recommend going to an auto parts store first and ask them to help you find the proper fuses for your tail lights, and if that isn't the solution ask them what you should… try next or a reference to an honest auto repair shop.
