Gold is actually pretty soft, it gets softer the higher the K's go. 14k is average so it'll take alot longer for a ring's band to get thinner then if it was higher K of gold because it rubs off on your finger, higher K gold is usually saved for pendents because it takes longer for it to wear off.

Hope That Helps!

14k gold is a durable and relatively hard metal that is commonly used in jewelry. It is resistant to tarnishing, rusting, and corrosion. However, as with any type of jewelry, the wear and tear on 14k gold will depend on how it is cared for and how often it is worn. It can get scratched over time, but these scratches can be polished out by a jeweler.
