coil----3---4 pack---2---6 plug----1---5
A 1994 Ford Explorer has the Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ( EDIS ) so it has ( 1 ) coil pack that has six towers on it , so there is no distributor cap
I was looking at fordparts.com and it shows the same part number ( Motorcraft DGE - 446 ) for the six tower coil pack on a 1994 Ford Explorer 4.0 liter OHV engine as the 4.0 liter OHV or SOHC engines in a 1998 Ford Explorer , so apparently the answer is YES
On a 2003 Explorer, there is no distributor or coil pack. Each spark plug has it's own coil pack as part of the spark plug boot.

coil----3 - 4 pack---2 - 6 plug----1 - 5 for the coil pack towers ( 3.0 and 4.0 liter V6 engines ) on a 1994 Ford Ranger
coil---3---4 pack--2---6 plug---1---5
coil---3---4 pack--2---6 plug---1---5
you don't it has a coil pack
coil----3---4 pack---2---6 plug----1---5
coil---3---4 pack--2---6 plug---1---5 for the 4.0 L - SOHC - V6 engine coil pack
On the Ford Explorer that has the EDIS ignition system ( Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ) instead of a distributor it has a coil pack with 6 coil pack towers for the V6 engine
