check where the odometer cable goes into the transmission some times there is a plastic gear where the teeth wear off and causes the odometewr not to work. I found where it goes into the transmission, but am having lots of trouble removing the sensor from the transmission. I removed the side screw and can turn the sensor a little bit, but it is not clear how to remove the wire and the sensor from the transmission. Any help here - I don't want to break anything! Thanks!
Nothing
Our odometer/tripmeter also just stopped working at 220,000 miles. This is an integral part of the speedometer assembly, and cannot be repaired. The entire speedometer must be replaced.
Your speedometer may have failed, or the speedometer cable that connects to the transmission, or the plastic gear in the transmission may be broken.
have you checked your fuses?
The speedometer is wired to a VSS. If it has failed then the unit will need to be replaced. Odometer and trip meter are wired into the same fuse and should be checked. If the fuse is blown the odometers will not work.
Most likely it is the VSS. Vehicle Speed Sensor. Have it checked out at your local garage or buy a new one and do it yourself. Although a computer check would be preferable first to obtain any codes.
I see that it is a Mazda but what is the year, and model. Just reply but clicking on the discussion and type your response.
You need to have it checked for codes to know what to diagnose.
It is possible. Most new vehicles have a sensor attached to the transmission that tell the speedometer how fast the vehicle is traveling. I suggest checking, or having the sensor checked first.
Have you checked fuse? Try new cable (wire) or connectors. Hope this helps.
have you checked the fuse? is the dimmer switch turned down? have they just quit working? Headlights/taillights work? Interior light? Need more info!! What have you checked so far?
Possible speed sensor issue. Have it checked for trouble codes to know what to diagnose.
