You will need:
- New oil filter
- Oil filter wrench
- Oil (about 6.3 quarts)
- 8mm Allen on socket wrench
- Drain pan
Steps:
1) Open hood and unscrew oil cap (to allow air to flow and oil to drain).
2) Get under the car and place the drain pan under the drain plug and filter (they are conveniently close together so a normal drain pan should cover enough ground for both). It's a bit of a squeeze without putting the car on ramps or blocks, but it can be done. Never get under a car that is elevated on a jack alone - it's just not safe.
3) Using the 8mm Allen, remove the drain plug and watch out - used diesel oil is surprisingly black and messy. Also, be careful not to lose the thin washer in between the drain plug and the oil pan.
4) Remove the oil filter.
5) Let the oil drain out for several minutes until it stops flowing.
6) Replace the drain plug, don't forget the washer, and don't tighten it too much. I believe the OEM reccommendation is about 20 ft/lbs of torque, which is not very much. Use a torque wrench if you are unsure of your ability to gauge this, you do not want to strip the threads of your drain plug.
7) Replace the filter.
8) Replace the oil - check the dipstick to confirm the right level.
9) Replace the oil cap and close the hood - you're done! Now just clean up and figure out what to do with the old oil (take it to an auto parts store to recycle).
The CRD is the Diesel version of the Liberty which all have timing belts with a 100K mile change interval. The only ones with a chain are the 3.7l v6.
The 2003 2.5 CRD Jeep Cherokee has a cam belt not a chain

Mine was zip-tied to my engine oil dipstick tube. Looks like it was never used.
Yes, Why Not? So long as your planning to replace the 4 banger or the 3.7L gas,or the CRD with the same engine size, they are all exactly the same. Maybe sans a memory upgrade to the computer,at most.
It's a chain.

The fuse for the fuel pump on a Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD is located in the engine compartment in the main fuse box. It prevents the pump from being overloaded and damaged due to a surge.
