On my 2006 Jetta GLI there is a hinged "door" inside the trunk to allow access to the tail light assembly. There are 2 black plastic tabs at the bottom of the assembly that you push up on and the whole assembly comes out. Note that this assembly is reinserted by putting the 2 small tabs at the top of the assembly back into the fixture first then rotating the bottom half down until it snaps into place. There are 2 bulbs (same part number) that are both the turn signal and brake light (both lights on for brake). Phillips P/N 12498 (21watt). Sylvania P/N 7506 (LL). I would change both as they are $3.80 each at dealer.
