It will be January 3. At the start, it is January 1 to the east and January 2 to the west. At midnight, both dates advance by one. Another way to see it: You lose a day, no matter what, by crossing the IDL from east to west. You also advance a day, no matter what, at midnight. The IDL passes through the middle of a time zone, it is not at the edge of a zone. It is always one day later to the west of the IDL.
