Diagnosis: Engine Won't Start or Run Check related link below
Is the ecm seeing engine speed. Does the check engine light come on. Do you have at least 12 volts to ecm.
Your Caterpillar 3406 diesel engine might crank over but not start because of a lack of fuel. The fuel filter may be plug or the fuel tank may be empty.
Cuz wyotech blows
kanotter valve clogged
The new models were 200 pounds lighter, quieter, more reliable, and more fuel-efficient than their predecessor, the 3406E
It's a mathematical formula which uses injector flow and RPMs.
Camshaft gear, on your 3406 Caterpillar diesel engine, by using a car puller. You will need to remove the front engine cover in order to get at the gear.
Like any other inline six diesel engine (and most I6 gas engines, as well), 1-5-3-6-2-4. Doesn't matter if it's a 3406, 3406B, 3406C, 3406E, etc.
You need to specify which model Caterpillar motor you have. 455 is just a horsepower rating - several models were available with a 455 horsepower rating, to include the 3406B, 3406E, C12, C13, and C15.
The timing marks on a 3406E Cat engine are recognizable by the bumps formed on the cover of the engine. The cam gear is also an important component when lining up timing marks. If in doubt, it is always advisable to visit a car dealership whenever engine work is involved.
It would help to know which motor you had. Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar, and Cummins motors were all available options during that model year. Which engine options specifically were available depends on exactly what model Freightliner you have. It could be either an 11.1 or 12.7 60 Series Detroit, it could be a 3206, 3306, or 3406E Caterpillar, it could be the L10, M11, or N14 Cummins, etc.
Need to know the engine. In 1997, most Freightliner models were available with a Detroit Diesel (e.g., 11.1, 12.7, or 14.0 60 Series), Caterpillar (3116, 3126, 3406, etc.), or Cummins (6BT, L10, M11, N14, etc.) engine, and many models from the aforementioned manufacturers were available, as Freightliner makes a wide range of trucks - Class 5 through Class 8. You could talking about anything from an FL50 with a 6BT Cummins to an FLD132 Classic XL with a 3406E Caterpillar. Suffice to say, the routing won't be the same for each truck model/engine configuration.

That depends on if yours has the Cummins ISX, VED12, VED13, or VED16. I believe there was a VNL780 in production when the Detroit Diesel 60 Series and Caterpillar 3406E, C12, C13, and C15 were available options for Volvo, as well.
pin the engine on the flywheel. line the timing mark on the cam gear with the timing mark located on the timing cover. the mark on the cover is located at the top and is just a bump formed in the cover.
No. Try the back of the compressor, instead.
