Sickle cell disease
The bonding of carbon dioxide to hemoglobin produces methemoglobin. This is an important chemical in the immune system of the human body.

False; Hemophilia is caused by a mutated allele that produces a defective form of the protein fibrin.Sickle Cell Disease is caused by a defective form of hemoglobin.
When CO is not ventilated it binds to hemoglobin, which is the principal oxygen-carrying compound in blood; this produces a compound known as carboxyhemoglobin. The traditional belief is that carbon monoxide toxicity arises from the formation of carboxyhemoglobin, which decreases the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood and inhibits the transport, delivery, and utilization of oxygen by the body. The affinity between hemoglobin and carbon monoxide is approximately 230 times stronger than the affinity between hemoglobin and oxygen so hemoglobin binds to carbon monoxide in preference to oxygen. ~ Wikipedia.
If our hemoglobin gene is normal, the hemoglobin protein works fine. But if the instuctions in that gene are changed, or "mutated,"changes in the hemoglobin protein could result. One such mutation causes a disorder called sickle cell anemia.

The porphyrias are disorders in which the body produces too much porphyrin and insufficient heme (an iron-containing nonprotein portion of the hemoglobin molecule).

bone marrow produces hemoglobin when told to do so by the kidneys.

False, Sickle Cell Disease :))
The reason is because iron produces red blood cells that carry oxygen through the body which equals to having low hemoglobin.
