An orphan is a child who has lost both parents.
A person whose parents are both dead is called an orphan - but it usually only applies to a child. I'm 57 and both my parents are dead, but no-one would say I'm an orphan.
There isn't a proper name for that, however a man with a dead wife is called a widower and a women with a dead husband is called a widow.

It depends on what other family is still alive. If there is an aunt or uncle - or even an older sister or brother - so long as the prospective guardian is over 18, they would probably be granted guardianship. If there are no surviving relatives, the child would be cared for by the state.
The child is one again put up for adoption to a new couple.
The child has a right to any support ordered but not paid (actually collecting it is another matter).
If the Mother is dead or absent, it is Motherless. If the child has no parents alive or around, then that child is an orphan.
