name for a group of related tribes and languages some of which
formed a Confederacy.
It is prounced : ɪrəkwɔɪ, ear-ra-quoi. It is from the French,
thought to be an attempt at an Algonquin,Huron word meaning
"rattlesnakes or black snakes" or from a Basque/Algonquin pigin
meaning "killer-people".
Their name for themselves as the 6 nation Confederacy is

his troops were best served by fighting Native American wars and
refused to send any troops to the East to fight in the confederacy.
However, after he left office, Texas joined. Kentucky and Missouri
refused to secede from the Union but rump groups declared

The American revolution did not directly effect the lives of
Native Americans. Politically little if anything changed; the only
difference being that the newly formed United States accepted the
terms and obligations of all treaties formally held between Native
American governments and governments in Europe (see Delaware Treaty
of 1778: Treaty of Fort Pitt) and attempted at least in part to
disconnect those Native Governments from any contact (or treaties)
with nations from Europe.
