what is something is passed from one living thing to anoter in a food chain
Food chains show possible feeding strategies for a group of organisms. There are usually only four levels in a food chain because the amount of energy transferred from one organism to the next diminishes as you move up the levels. For example, the 1st Trophic or Energy level is the Producers which are plants, algae, etc. Members of this level received energy from the sun. Producers are consumed by Primary Consumers in the 2nd Energy level by plant eaters. In the 3rd Energy level, the Primary Consumers are eaten by the Secondary Consumers or carnivores. Finally, in the 4th Energy level the Top Consumers eats the Secondary Consumer.
Many things are passed from one thing to another in a food chain. One of these things is energy, although only 10% of the energy from a given level of the food chain can make it to the next level. Another thing that organisms pass up the food chain are nutrients. However, with modern pollution, toxic chemicals are passed up the food chain, too. For each level that toxins travel up the food chain, the more the toxin content becomes amplified because all of the toxins that were accumulated in the entire lives of all of the prey animals consumed by one predator are stored in its tissues.

food chain
The organisms at the beginning of the food chain are called producers or autotrophs, such as plants and algae. Some make their own food using the sun's energy through photosynthesis and some producers use chemosynthesis to make their own food.Above them would be 1st level consumers, then 2nd level consumers and so on.
Something that eats another animal in the food chain

The great chain of being is the .. something something something of the something something something Idiot ^
Chain of command is when one person reports to another. It is important, especially in military action. Something that is not chain of command is when one team of people reports hazardous road conditions to another team directly.
10 percent of the suns energy is passed down from each organism. it is passed down by an organism eating another.
Ultimately, all energy originates from the Sun and is passed along the food chain from there. For example... Sun -> Grass -> Cow -> Human

Energy
When there is a transfer of energy from living organism to living organism, a food chain is created.
