Not exactly. The current continental and oceanic plates include: the Eurasian plate, Australian-Indian plate, Philippine plate, Pacific plate, Juan de Fuca plate, Nazca plate, Cocos plate, North American plate, Caribbean plate, South American plate, African plate, Arabian plate, the Antarctic plate, and the Scotia plate. These plates consist of smaller sub-plates.
Tectonic plates can include continental crust or oceanic crust, and many plates contain both. For example, the African Plate includes the continent and parts of the floor of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
sounds greek to me, or maybe Latin tectonic is from the greek adjective tektonikos or "built" as in arcitecture
They are known as tectonic plates from the Greek word for carpenter.
The section of rock that lies below a fault is called the footwall.
The Tian Shan mountains are located on Asia. The word is also spelled "continent", not contient.
See related link below.Plates are big sheets of rock that move by the convection in the mantle. And a boundary is a line that marks the limits of an area also called a dividing line. So the plates on the crust that are constantly moving have names for ex: the pacific plate which is under the pacific ocean the boundary is the place where the plates meet on all sides(where the pacific plate ends).
Plate boundaries are where tectonic plates meet.
That would be called a Normal Fault. Normal Fault is when a tectonic plate appears to have moved down the fault, and the fault is said to be a normal fault.
Another word for plate is dish or platter.
