where do I add freon to my air conditioning unit on a 1997 chevy truck?
To add Freon locate the low-pressure port on the A/C system, also called the low-side service port. You will find this port against the firewall, at the back of the engine compartment.
low side charging is on passenger side , between engine and firewall. about a fot down. if not there check near the right shock tower, there should be a" L" on the cap,
You add freon to the a/c by using the low side, suction side (larger hose).............
Did this to my 98 Malibu v6, the low pressure valve is on line beside fire wall behind engine, it has blue protective cap on it. high pressure valve you would not use has red cap on it located beside radiator/condenser. You don't say what year your Malibu is so this may not apply to you if your unit uses the R12 refrigerant.
R134a
The PCV,Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve is to keep down crankcase pressure by way of venting the engine. Freon is the refrigerant that allows an air conditioner to cool properly. There is not any connection between the two.
you dont only a certified repair shop can handle R12
The 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck has two ports on top of the air conditioner compressor. You will add Freon through the low pressure port.
Freon was not installed in any vehicle built after 1995.Freon was not installed in any vehicle built after 1995.
Low pressure line - larger line from A/C compressor
Add it to the low presser side. It will be located on the evaporator on the fire wall on the passenger side of vehicle.
