Most veterinarians provide pain relief for only a short time post-operatively, if at all. Pain is a good way to limit the activity of a dog, which is necessary after surgery so sutures don't break and healing can start.
After only a few days your dog should be good as new.

Dogs don't really 'get better' from being neutered because they are not ill. But if you mean 'How long does it take for the effects of neutering of dogs to wear off?' then the answer depends on how well the dog reacted to the neutering. My Grandmother's dog was recently neutered and he was not the same again until 3 months later. I found most of that information from a website but I think it would be wise to ask your pet's vet that question. Should you happen to be asking this out of interest and not for a dog you have or know then I suggest ASkJeeves.com because my answer may not be accurate
