The new one will be effective as soon as you take it. Since Birth Control hormones are already in your body, your body will adapt to the new hormones right away. You do not have to use a back up method when switching pills. I was told this by my physician when I switched birth control pills and I was perfectly fine.

i herd a few ppl do that they were on the depo and there next due date for the depo they switched to the pills i never herd of it being a dangerous thing but it will mess with your menstural cycle and my make it even more difficult to get pregnant then when u were on the depo my opinion is to wait until you know for a fact the depo is out of your system once its out you should still wait until your body ajust right then switch to the pill just don't have unprotected sex but that way you kno it wont cause any problems but you really should ask a doctor that's just my opinion i hope this helped

The birth control pill is effective as long as you take it regularly. After you stop, you may be able to get pregnant within a couple of weeks, or your next ovulation may be delayed slightly. If your periods were regular before, you can expect to ovulate within 2-4 weeks after stopping the birth control pill.
Birth Control Pills work for as long as you continue taking them as directed. The Morning After Pill is an Emergency Contraceptive; it works for the day you had unprotected sex and up to 120 hours after you previously had unprotected sex.

It is not made to protect you from sex you might have tomorrow or next week. You need to use Birth Control for continued protection.

If you're switching from one pill to another with no more than the normal sugar-pill break, there is no waiting period for the new pill to become effective.
