Acceleration Lane
merging area or entrance ramp
When entering an expressway, never stop in the acceleration lane unless traffic is stopped. This would cause an accident if the traffic was not moving and a persons car was continuing to accelerate.
use the acceleration lane to blend into trafic
Because they usually equate poor acceleration to poor car performance.
There are no specific way to calculate length of acceleration lane (LA). Even AASHTO 2004 Green book also only include tables to predict minimum LA. However, from Highway Capacity Manual 2000 (exhibit 25-5) shows calculation to get flowrate in lane 1 and lane 2. In the equation exists LA variables. Therefore, if you can know value of freeway demand flowrate (in pcu/hr) and flowrate in lane 1 and lane 2, then i guess you can get the answer for LA
Frame of reference can be used to describe acceleration.
Frame of reference can be used to describe acceleration.
The right lane is the lane to always drive in. The left lane is to be used for a passing lane.
When not being used as a reversible lane, you may pull into it in order to clear your lane of traffic when making a left-turn across opposing ttraffic.
You should accelerate to the same speed as the traffic in the lane you are merging into. Then adjust as needed when you are safely in the travel lane. (Entering from the left may mean you are entering the fastest lane of travel, and you also may not have a clear view of traffic directly alongside you.)
F=ma or a=dV/dt can be used to determine acceleration.
