It is called an Internal Combustion Engine(ICE for short) and covers a broad range of engine types not just the specified piston-cylinder engines asked about, but covers any kind of power source where fuel is burned with air(oxidised), inside a confined space and the resulting energy is used to turn a shaft through pistons and levers or turbines so that the energy can be used for a desired purposed.

There are many different types of piston-cylinder engines but the most common ones in cars are four stroke petrol or diesel engines, less common are two stroke petrol and diesel engines. There are other types but of no real note to anyone except engineers and related disciplines.

What is an engine that burns fuel in a chamber inside the engine?

Internal combustion engine

What is it called when an engine burns fuel inside itself?

An engine that burns fuel inside itself is officially known as an internal combustion engine. Most cars have these.

What type of engine burns fuel inside the engine?

An internal combustion engine burns fuel inside.

What is an open combustion chamber?

That refers to the area where a piston goes un and downin a 4 or 2 cycle engine and burns the fuel it has pumped into that chamber compressed by the piston and ignaited by the spark plug.

Why is diesel is an internal combustion engine?

When air is compressed it becomes hot. A diesel engine compresses air and fuel in a cylinder. The mixture burns and pushes down the piston. It is called an internal combustion engine because engines that work by burning fuel inside a cylinder and pushing down a piston are called internal combustion engines. Steam engines are external combustion engines. The fire burns and heats water in a boiler. The water turns to steam and either drives pistons like in a steam locomotive or in a turbine. Gas turbines could technically be called internal combustion but are not. One turbine compresses the gas. The gas burns under pressure in a combustion chamber and turns another turbine. Jet planes and a number of electric generators use gas turbines.

How the exhaust temperature of Heavy Diesel engine is Controlled?

The main reason for exhaust temprature is the problem with the injectors.the unburnt fuel from the combustion chamber flows to the exhaust manifold while engine works. This unburnt fuel burns in the exhaust manifold burns and causes high exhaust temprature.

How lava burns?

Lava is called magma inside the volcano and it is just melted rock.

How are internal and external combustion different?

In terms of engines, an external combustion engine such as a steam engine burns fuel outside of the pressure cylinder used to drive the piston. An internal combustion engine such as a petrol or diesel engine burns the fuel inside the pressure cylinder used to drive the piston.

How does combustion chamber size effect an engine?

if you make the combustion chamber smaller for example by shaving the heads when the sparkplugs ignites , the piston will get pushed down harder there for make your engine go faster .In short, reducing the combustion chamber size increases the combustion ratio which increasing the explosive force of the air fuel mixture when it burns. The negative side of this is fuel with a higher octane rating will have to be used to run the engine.

The process by which engine fuels burn?

The process by which an engine burns fuel is called combustion. High pressure and a spark is used to ignite the fuel and generate power.

Why is an internal combustionengine rather than an external combustion engine?

The external combustion engine ( a steam engine is a good example) burns it fuel to create an energy source that is then transported (piped) to a device to create mechanical motion. The internal combustion engine burns its fuel inside the device creating the mechanical motion (piston car engines and Aircraft jet engines are two examples)

You get a cloud of white smoke coming out your exhaust every time you speed?

Pretty sure that means it is burning your engine coolant. The anti freeze is somehow leakinging into the combustion chamber and when it burns with the gas the smoke is white.
