A cashier can be called exactly just that however, in a resume you might want to be more tactful. Front desk customer service would be a nice twist on words.
+++
There is nothing tactless about being described as, or callling yourself, a "cashier" - or come to that, waiter/ress, cleaner, receptionist, secretary, labourer, etc. A potential employer wants accurate, concise details of your experience,not flummery, and if anything it is LESS tactful to hide behind jargon that conveys nothing of your actual role.
If you use meaningless terms like "front desk customer representative" you waste the interviewer's time in having to ask you to explain, and he or she may suspect you are unable to convey accurate information clearly, or are even trying to hide something.
Be honest - that's what is being tactful!
"Server"
or, if you really want to dress it up "customer service representative"
++
"Waitress" - pure and simple. The interviewer wants plain, honest information; and does not want to waste time asking you what you actually did that you'vehidden behind meaningless jargon.
I know the company to which you are applying might have described the vacancy in similar waffle, but it won't help you andtwo wrongs don't make a right.
A Cashier is a customer relations front line person. Scans the purchases. totals, possible bags, & receives the monetary exchange for the total of the purchase. Greet the customer with a smile & no judgement. Be pleasant & professional at the same time. You are the face of the Store. What you do can effect how that customer feels when he/she leaves with the items they have just spent their hard earned money on. Make sure you thank them when the transaction is done.

One of the difficulties of a cashier is dealing with difficult customers. Another difficulty is finding a way to please both management, and their customers.
According to the cashier at my local Shaws, the answer is yes. They have been acquired by another company and will be changing their name soon. They will become more like Market Basket with low prices.
No. It is illegal. Only the person on whose name the check is issued can cash it. If the person to whom the check is issued is dead and you are the legal heir of the beneficiary then you can cash it. In all other cases - NO.
Cashier is NOT normally capitalized. I gave fifty dollars to the cashier. The cashier gave me change.
