Civil Engineering is to keep a structure in a stable position against various natural & artificial forces ..Geology helps the Civil Engineering to know about the nature of soil means various criterias which may support or against the stability of the structure like the bearing capacity of soil .thats why the soil exploration is act as preceding activity to finalize the foundation design of structures..
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are tools for organizing, analyzing, and presenting spatial data. GIS can be used by geotechnical engineers to aid preliminary assessment through final geotechnical design. This paper introduces GIS and applications of the technology. GIS tools can be used to integrate existing data with project specific data; identify potential geological hazards; plan and track field work; create maps and figures; and improve communication. These tools can help identify potential barriers to project completion early in the design process that may help to avoid later costly redesign. Actual projects utilizing geotechnical applications of GIS are presented to illustrate.

Geology is means earth science.
For any structure of that foundation is factor is very important for stable and still the structure. Geology is helpful in to determine the ground surface is able to bear the structure load. In this study some factor are consisted as the ground subsurface is contain fault, fold, joint, conformity, Unconfermity, Ground water Condition, Type of strata of subsurface and topography of area etc. In big construction like DAM, Multistory building, Breaches, Hydro- power plant site for it reduces the more economical cost spend for the construction. site selection for which Geological survey gives all detail of rock Strata, Rock types, dip and direction of rock, and outcrop by using geological map.
A GIS could possibly be used to model flood waters to see how different floods inundate buildings and breach flood defences for different storm events.
Engineering is the application of rules of engineering to any field e-g application of rules of engineering to computer-science makes it computer-engineering similar to all fields (electrical, civil, petroleaum, software)

civil
I think civil is the mother, since mother give birth and is the oldest engineering

Civil engineering relies on engineering geology, and engineer geology is man's role in civil engineering. He provides information for civil engineering and his works, such as building roads, and so on, and provides information on the earth's bearing capacity.
With the help of Geology we canrecognizepotential difficult ground conditions prior to detailed design and construction (civil engineering).

Rule of thumb - first word describes the second Geological Engineering - A specialization within the field of engineering. This course of study incorporates many aspects of civil and mining engineering, with some geology and hydrology topics mixed in. Engineering Geology - Geology based, specifically as related to engineering applications. This includes hydrology, geophysics, rock mechanics, and geotechnics. This would likely involve much more geology than engineering however. Both Geological Engineering as well as Engineering Geology can be studied at the undergraduate level (B.S. / BSc) in addition to (in various forms at the) graduate level (M.S. / MSc). One observation I have noted through personal experience and research is that a person with a Geo. Eng. degree is far more likely to be viewed as an "engineer" as compared to a "geologist" with the alternative option.
