Renato Corona was appointed as Chief Justice of the Philippines by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2010. His appointment was met with controversy, as allegations of corruption and partiality arose during his impeachment trial in 2012. Ultimately, Corona was found guilty and removed from office due to his failure to accurately disclose his financial assets, resulting in his appointment being highly criticized.
