I think a 10 year old is also old enough to take care of a dog if he wants to do it. If you are not sure about it, I would recommend to borrow a dog from a neighbor or someone else and have a look if he can handle it.

To ensure that the kid takes care of the dog properly, an adult can supervise/guide him

Is this person responsible

is you dog large or small (depends on the breed a Mastiff might be hard to handle)

is the dog well behaved

does the kid know how to Handel a dog, like food amount or walking the dog on a leash

An 11 year old dog should be spayed for her own health. She should NEVER be considered for breeding as it could cause her death. The best & kindest thing you can do for your 11 year old dog is to spay her as soon as possible. You will cut down on the risks for mammary cancer, uterine infections, etc. An 11 year old dog is much too old to have puppies if even she could. It would take so much from her body. If you truly care about your dog, you would or will have her spayed.
