Is a pitbull a horrible dog?

Originally the American Bulldog was called the American Pit Bulldog. This caused a lot of confusion with the American Pit Bull Terrier and so the American Pit Bulldog became simply the American Bulldog. Even though, the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Bulldog once shared a similar name they are two completely different breeds.

American Bulldogs and American Pit Bull Terriers are both breeds originally bred for dogfighting. Because handlers somtimes needed to get into the ring with the dogs to seperate them in the heat of fights, both breeds were originally specifically and carefully bred to be absolutely non-aggressive towards humans. Any dog exhibiting human aggression was immediately killed, and never bred- and usually, it's parents and siblings would be killed as well. Neither breed makes a good watchdog as a result of this careful selective breeding- they are more likely to jump on and lick an intruder than attack and bite.

Neither the pit bull terrier or the American Bulldog are, as a rule, dangerous to humans, though in ANY breed there are exceptions to the rule. When they were originally created in England, the pit bull was often referred to as the "nanny dog" for their loyalty and gentleness with the children they were often tasked with babysitting and protecting. Cocker spaniels, however, have one of the highest bite incident rates of any breed.

no breed of dogs are bad. yes there are bad dogs but not a whole breed can be bad. it depends on the owner. i have an American pit bull and he is he sweetest dog ive ever met!!
