There are no circulating Australian Coins with any gold content.
The Royal Australian Mint Canberra and the Perth Mint, both produce a range of non-circulating gold coins, coin sets and nuggets for investors and collectors.
However, there are Australian coins that appear gold and are often referred to a "gold" coins, being the $1 and $2 coins.
Their composition is 92% copper, 6% aluminum and 2% nickel.

If you are looking to collect something of value for the future, aim for mint uncirculated coins. Otherwise, all Australian 50 cent coins, except the 1966 coin, are potentially still in circulation and are only worth 50 cents.
If you are looking for something unusual or interesting, all Australian 50 cent coins, except the 1966 coin, are dodecagonal (12 sided) and are often used as commemoratives.

Other than the 1966 coin, these coins are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth 50 cents.

What is Australian 50 cent double bar fault?
The "double bar" refers to two lines appearing to stick out horizontally from the back of the emus head. They are actually a part of the reed design. The fault is most pronounced on the 1979 and 1980 50 cent coins and to a lesser degree on the 1966 (round) coin. It was a weak spot on the dies and caused early fractures in the coins. The offending part of the design was subsequently ground out of the dies and is not visible in later coins. An Australian 1979 50 cent coin (Double Bar fault), uncirculated and in absolute mint condition could fetch up to $12 AUD. An Australian 1979 50 cent coin (Double Bar fault)(Proof), uncirculated and in absolute mint condition could fetch up to $100 AUD. Find something of interest to you and that you think you can afford and start collecting. Coin collecting is an interesting hobby and can teach you a lot about history. It is also often a life long hobby.
