Yes, Brittany Spaniels are very good family pets!! They are very pertective and great with kids! Although they do go through a teething stage and like to chew on things and nibble on you!! (get a milk jug you are done with and wash it out really good and let them have it to chew on. Don't panic if they swallow some they should be fine it happens alot!!)

According to the book The Intelligence of Dogs by Stanley Coren, the Brittany is the nineteenth most intelligent breed of dog. They are in the "Excellent Working Dogs" group, and dogs in this group can understand new commands within 5 to 15 repetitions and obey first commands 85% of the time or better.
All these personality traits make the Brittany easy to train and housebreak. However, bear in mind that each individual dog has its own unique personality. Even dogs of the same breed can have very different temperaments and some Brittanys can be a pain in the neck when it comes to training!

∙ 12y agoWell, you shouldn't really have a pet dog if your allergic to them. It doesn't matter if it's a dog that doesn't shed a lot. You still shouldn't have a dog. You could ask a doctor if you wanted to and see what they say.

But somehting like a westhighland white terrier, who is a very good family dog, is good. Also, alot of spaniels are very good dogs for a family. it all depends on what you look for. If your looking for a small dog, or a big dog, find your favorite, then make sure you get it at the best place. If you get it at a shelter, make sure you understand the full history of the dog. At a breeder, make sure you fully know how to train the dog.
