I have been to China many times. Chinese people are very nice and very friendly, but some are intensely curious about foreign people. I am a white man living in the Southern US. I also have a rather large European nose. I have been stared at more times than I care to think. But China did not have many foreign people in the recent past. Seeing someone who is not Chinese is interesting to them.

I have only met one rude Chinese person. I was sitting in a park with my Chinese wife's family. A complete stranger walked up behind me, put his hands on my shoulder, and in Chinese said "Ni you da bizi" which means "you have a big nose" in English. As I left the park, I walked by his table and said a lot of really nasty things about his mother in English. I understood what he said to me, but I knew he did not speak English and would not understand my insults to his mother. haha.
