Pirates are criminals and thieves who lives on his ship in the ocean. they raid other ships, often killing the occupants in order to steal their ship.

A privateer is a pirate ordered by his government to raid ships during times of war.

Vikings on the other hand are Scandinavians who raided the coast of other countries for example monasteries on the coast of Ireland. They took their loot after battling the occupants and traded them then with others.

Although pirates and Vikings are both pagans the vikings actually believed that stealing was wrong however battling people for their loot was fair.

They believed there was nothing after death for most people and so the only thing that would live was their name as a great viking.

However those who broke oaths or stole would lead an afterlife of torment.

Pirates on the other hand could steal, kill, break oaths and it was just their way of life.

No. Although they could both be used for raiding and plunder, they were set in different times and were entirely different kinds of ships.

Viking ships (longships) were very seaworthy craft usually with a large sail and oars, but typically open to the elements. They were used to transport the Vikings to coastal towns where they would loot and pillage. They were not often used in sea battles as were contemporary Roman ships. Viking raids began in ancient times, notably from around 800 to 1300 AD. New investigations suggest that the ships were also used for far-ranging trade.

Pirate ships, used from around the 14th century to the 19th century, were similar to the large sailing warships of the day. They had multiple masts and sails, enclosed holds and officer cabins. They used cannons to attack other ships, and would board them to seize their cargoes at sea. But they could also be used in raiding towns.

No, vikings and pirates lived in different eras.

The vikings "ruled" before the pirates, as early as the 8th century.

If anything, pirates might have been inspired by the vikings.

Probably not. Pirates mostly were (and still are) mercenaries who looked out for themselves. Vikings were skilled and organized warriors. I suspect if pirates and vikings ever met, it would be a quick victory for the vikings.
