It was and according to the Sony Support website only the 1ST 80 GB model of the PS3 was backward compatible. The model number on the back was CECHA01. The 20 GB and 60 GB models were also backward compatible. All other PS3 models including the 160 GB and the new Slim 120GB and 250 GB models are not Backward compatible. A link to the PlayStation Network on this is under the related links. But before you claim that you can play them on your PS3, you need to remember that the question was about backwards compatible and here is an some additional information from the link.
Some PlayStation® and PlayStation®2 format software titles operate on some PlayStation 3 models, but full compatibility is not guaranteed. The library of games in the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software catalogs available in North America (including upcoming titles) are being verified for playability with several PlayStation 3 models.
There are two different 80GB models (neither one of them are in production any more). The one that has 4 USB ports is backwards compatible with most PS2 games, the one that has 2 USB ports cannot play PS2 games.
No, only two of the first models feature backwards compatability (these models are no longer sold in stores). All newer models are not backwards compatable. Sony got rid of this feature in order to make PS3 consoles run faster, quieter, and more smoothly.
No if your PS3 is not Backwards compatible there are no software or hardware changes you can make to give it that capability. There are no Downloads or upgrades, updates, add on, or anything you can do except replace it with an old 4 USB port PS3 that will cost as much as a new PS3, but without any warranty. Even those will only work on some game titles and the 80 GB PS3 with 4 USB ports will have backward compatibility on fewer games than the 60 GB USA model PS3.
The early PS3s with 4 USB ports are the only ones.
Only the first models with 4 USB ports were Backward compatible for PS2 games.
No they stopped making backward compatible PS3 in August 2008 and over a year before the Slim was even released
The ones with 4 USB ports They also have 20 GB harddrive 60 GB harddrive and the early 80 GB harddrive made before August 2008
no
The PS3 that were Backwards compatible are being refurbished and sold from places like Gamestop. Production on earlier PS3 models of all but the newest PS3 slim has stopped. I have seen new PS3s being sold on Ebay that are Backwards compatible and they are going for twice what the PS3 slim sells for,
Only if you have a PS3 that is backwards compatible with PS2 games. This includes the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB models. If you do not have one of these models of PS3 you will not be able to play Ratchet Deadlocked.
it allows you to play ps2 game s on a non backwards compatible ps3
Yes and no. Only on the ps3 60 gb, and maybe a 80 gb. All 60 gigs are backwards compatible. Only one 80 gig.
The PS3 games are not backwards compatible with the PS2 I'm afraid. you can search it up on youtube and it will tell you how just do what it tells it is easy
If you PS3 is not backwards compatible nothing you can do will change that
Sony claims that if your PS3 is not already Backwards compatible that nothing you can do will make it able to play PS2 games.
yes No you can not turn a PS3 into a Backwards Compatible PS2 game player. That's why the demand for older Backwards Compatible PS3 models with the 4 USB ports has increased the resale value. If you could make a Backwards Compatible PS3 Slim 250 GB why would someone pay as much for an old PS3 with an unknown history that might have been repaired many times.
No
yes
All ps1 games are playable on ps3, so Metal Gear Solid 1 is backwards compatible, but only backwards compatible systems can play the second and third game on ps3.
First Generation models ie. those that were released first were fully backwards compatible and played PS2 and PS1 games as well as PS3 games. The second generation of the PS3 also which also had 4 USB ports were also Backwards compatible with many of the PS2 games. All other PS3 models lack the backwards compatible feature and are not considered to be Backwards compatible. see related link.
only if you have the ps3 version got be backwards compatible
The PS3 that were Backwards compatible are being refurbished and sold from places like Gamestop. Production on earlier PS3 models of all but the newest PS3 slim has stopped. I have seen new PS3s being sold on Ebay that are Backwards compatible and they are going for twice what the PS3 slim sells for,
Hate to tell you this, but every ps3 can play ps1 games including the slim. 20gb 60gb 80gb are backwards compatible with ps2 games.
You can't download it. You have to buy a PS3 with Backwards compatibility. _______________________________________________________________________ I have started a facebook group entitled, "All PS3 systems should be BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE!" I would greatly appreciate the support of anyone willing to join. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=555436001&ref=profile#/group.php?gid=152180619343 Thank you for your support.
No the game is not backwards compatible with any PS3 console
