A garbage diposal can draw anywhere between 5 to just over 8 amps depending on the size of the unit
The dicision on which disposal to buy should be based on the size needed. The most common for residental use is a .5 hp. I often sell the Bager 5 Insinkerator.
The only issue would be the drain hole. I couldn't find a measurement of what it is. I would imagine a new sink would have a standard size hole. I do not know about an older one. I have never seen a smaller drain for a garbage disposal but that doesn't mean they are not available.
To install a new garbage disposal you will need: a wrench, Philips screwdriver, flat screwdriver, a hose clamp, plumber's putty, and wire nuts. http://plumbing.lifetips.com/cat/64351/garbage-disposer/index.html
A good 1/3 HP Badger will do the trick. A Badger is a quality unit. Going with 1/2 HP would be overkill. Denise
For a residentil application you will normally find either /2 or 3/4 hp disposal. This should be more than enough for family of 4.

You mean Stilson, - they are a famous brand of heavy duty wrenches.
If you don't have metric wrenches, a 5/8" and a 13/16" wrench will work.
they measure the size of the garbage bag.
not sure of actual size, but it is a metric size so ordinary wrenches will not fit
