All the 350 or so members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir are baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church). This is one of the requirements for membership in the choir.

As for being a member of the Mormon Tabernacle, that's impossible. It's just the name of the building where the choir performs, and doesn't have members of it's own. It is not home to any congregation or regular worship services aside from Choir performances.

In order to be considered for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, you must pass a very competitive and challenging audition, as well as meet certain requirements (living in the Salt Lake City area and being a baptized member of the Church). It doesn't matter if you are professionally trained, but you must be a very good singer. Those who pass the audition attend a short training course in which they study the choir's repertoire, those who do well in the training course will make the final cut and become official choir members.

Can a person purchase the Mormon Choir in VHS?

You should be able to purchase the Mormon Tabernacle Choir concerts on DVD, VHS, and CD from their website, www.mormontabernaclechoir.org. If that doesn't work you can try the Mormon (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) Distribution Center at www.ldscatalog.com, which will have some, but probably not all.

Is there a size limit for men or women to sing in the mormon tabernacle choir?

Not really. You must be able to fit in the choir seats of the tabernacle and able to sit and stand for long periods of time. You do need to be in reasonably good physical health so that you are able to attend all practices and performances and travel/tour with the choir, but there is no size requirement aside from fitting comfortably in the provided seating.

What is the name of a song sung by the Mormon tabernacle choir that contains the words all is well?

You are probably thinking of "Come, Come, ye Saints". This is a popular Mormon hymn written to encourage the Mormon pioneers as they were crossing the plains. You can find the sheet music and lyrics at the "Related Links" below.

Is Roma Downey a Mormon?

No, she is a devout Roman Catholic. However, the confusion as to why people might have thought she was a Mormon is because she played the angel Monica in the TV show Touched By an Angel. The only connection between the series and Mormons is that most of this series was filmed in Salt Lake City, UT.Another reason for the confusion could be the fact that Roma Downey was a host for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in a 1998 Christmas performance titled: A Christmas Gloria with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Canadian Brass. However, it is noted that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir often has Non-LDS performers for many of its concerts and performances.Another AnswerThere was an article in the mormon periodical Church news, as "Sister Downey" thereby addressing her as a mormon.Another AnswerIt's hard to say what religious faith Roma Downey is. it is stated that when Roma married Mark Burnett her current husband that Della Reese, a Protestant Minster, officiated at their wedding. There is not much mentioned about what religious sect she is a part of, she may be Mormon, she maybe Catholic or she maybe Protestant, or for all we know she maybe non-denominational.

When was Mormon tabernacle established?

There are actually several Mormon Tabernacles. Tabernacle was simply a name for a large worship space or meeting house for the Mormon Pioneers. The Tabernacles still standing are generally reserved as historic sites and are used for occassional community events, not weekly worship services. The most famous tabernacle is located on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, adjacent to the Salt Lake Temple. As all addresses in Salt Lake City branch out from this block, it doesn't really have an address... Temple Square is surrounded by North Temple, South Temple, West Temple, and Main Street. It is the home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Other tabernacles in the surrounding area include Provo, Ogden, Brigham City, Logan, St. George, and Paris (Idaho). Most of these Tabernacles are open for public tours during business hours. You can see photos and information about each tabernacle at the Related Links below.

What sports team is ironically located in a city filled with Mormons who don't allow music?

None, because all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) allow music - in fact, music is encouraged. Mormons believe that music has power to uplift and edify. It is also used as a means of worship. The Church itself owns several radio stations in the United States (most of which are pop or contemporary music, not religious) and many popular musicians including Donny Osmond, Gladys Knight, Davis Archuleta, and Brandon Flowers are Mormon. In addition, the Church is well known for it's choir (the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) and the music and performing arts programs at Church-owned universities are very popular.

Are all mainland trucking companies owned by Mormon members?

Who can go to the Mormon temple?

Generally, Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the 'Mormon' church) are open only to actively practicing members who have recieved a recommend from their Bishop. The requirements to recieve a recommend are: -Bearing testimony of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost -Belief that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Christian church and was restored to the earth by Jesus Christ to Joseph Smith -Belief that the current Church leadership is inspired of God -Active in your congregation for at least one year -Following the Law of Chastity (no sex outside of a legal heterosexual marriage) -Following the Word of Wisdom (no alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or coffee) -paying a 10% tithe -Being honest in all things -Not providing support to any organization that opposes the church or it's teachings -confessing any major sins to your Bishop Teens ages 12 and up are admitted to the baptistry only. Adults (generally those who have been called on missions, will soon be married, or who have reached their mid to late 20's without doing either of these) will recieve admittance to the entire temple. Before a Temple is dedicated, the general public is invited to tour the inside of the building. Dedications take place for all newly constructed temples as well as temples that have undergone renovation. The period when a Temple is open to the public is generally about two weeks. After the Temple is dedicated, the public is welcome to enjoy the gardens surrounding the temple, but may not enter the building. There is also a waiting room or lobby area where those who are not members may wait inside for friends or family. Some temples also have a visitor center where the general public may go to learn more. Please note that a Temple is different than a Mormon meetinghouse. Temples are for special ceremonies only, but meetinghouses are where regular worship services and congregation activities are held. Meetinghouses, activities, and worship services are always open to the general public. Check out the "Related Links" below to see interior photos of Mormon Temples as well as learn more about temples and meetinghouses.

How do you start a choir?

well, you could gather some friends and try out :) audition your friends, and try to gather as many members as possible. or maybe get someone you know who is from a choir to join. and as the choir progress, perform gigs, increase standards and all :) hope that helped :D
