YES! veins are more compliant than arteries. it means they are more capable of adopting their lumen size with changes in blood volume inside their lumen .when blood volume increase inside a vein lumen it easily expands and accepts whatever amount of blood reach and when blood volume decreases squeezes and adopt its lumen size for that amount of blood .

but when we are talking just about arteries and want to compare one artery to another artery ,we should know that aorta is most compliant artery, remember the farther away from heart the less elastin in artery wall hence less compliance.

Which is larger retinal arteries or retinal veins?

Retinal veins are larger than retinal arteries. Retinal veins are between 2/3 to 3/4 times larger than the arteries of the retina. Retinal vein are also darker red then the arteries.

What is the amount of muscle in veins and arteries?

The amount of muscle in veins and arteries varies in the sense that arteries are more muscular than veins to give them extra elasticity and strength to deal with surges of blood.

Why do veins have less collagen elastic fibers and smooth muscles than arteries?

Because blood in veins is under lower pressure than in arteries, so they do not need as many collagen fibres. In addition, as veins already have a wide diameter, they do not need to dilate that much hence they also dont contract that much (as opposed to artieries), so they have less elastic recoil, thus they have less elastic fibres. :)

Why do most tissues have a greater supply of capillaries than veins and arteries?

Capillaries service cells, arteries and veins transport blood to and from capillaries, respectively.

Do arteries contain more oxygen or carbon dioxide than veins?

Arteries carry blood away from the heart and veins carry blood into the heart. Blood moving from the heart to the lungs through the pulmonary artery has less oxygen than blood moving from the lungs to the heart through the pulmonary vein, but most arteries carry oxygen-rich blood with little carbon dioxide, and most veins carry deoxygenated blood with carbon dioxide and other wastes.

Are veins thicker than arteries?

The tunica media is thicker in arteries than in veins.

What is the blood vessel connecting capillaries to arteries?

Venules, they are smaller and thinner than veins.

What happens in your veins?

Most veins carry deoxygenated blood from the tissues back to the heart; exceptions are the pulmonary and umbilical veins, both of which carry oxygenated blood to the heart. In contrast to veins, arteries carry blood away from the heart. Veins are less muscular than arteries and are often closer to the skin.

What is difference between capillaries and veins?

Capillaries are smaller, thinner and have less surface area than veins. Veins take blood to the heart, and capillaries are the thin tubes that connect the veins and arteries together.

Where is the pushing force of the heart greater in arteries or in the veins?

The pushing force of the heart is greater in arteries than in veins. The arteries are closer to the heart itself.

What are facts about veins and arteries?

If you gather all the veins and arteries together in your body, then it could wrap around the earth, twice! There are some veins and arteries that are smaller than a price of your hair!
