Bite marks on body
Some people are allergic to the salivary gland injection made by a bed bug and thus show "mosquito" like welts on their body where the insect has fed.

No visible bite marks on body
Not everyone is allergic to the bed bug salivary gland excretion, therefore, one person may show signs while a partner sleeping in the same bed at the same time shows no signs on their body, when in fact the bug has fed on them too.

Bed Bugs do not transmit any diseases, so in this way, no they are not dangerous. People can, however, have allergic reactions to bed bug bites, which causes inflammation, itching and reddened skin. By scratching or irritating a bite, an individual runs the risk of infecting the area with bacteria, which can of course be dangerous. If you are dealing with bed bug bites, here are a few ideas from my blog that may help you.

An individual who is bitten by a bed bug will not feel the initial bite, and while not everyone has a reaction to the bites, those who do can experience severe inflammation, redness, and itching.

The following are the Top Treatments we have found to be successful.

  1. Do not scratch the bite.
  2. To ease itching, use an anesthetic cream
  3. Calamine lotion can be used to ease itching.
  4. Creams and lotions created for mosquito bites will effectively reduce itching.
  5. When applied directly to the bite, Peppermint oils and extracts will remove the itch.
  6. The use of over-the-counter Benadryl can help to reduce the allergic reaction.
  7. Apply ice on and around the bite to reduce swelling
  8. Wear loose fitting clothing in the areas where bites are apparent. This will reduce the irritation
  9. Should the bite become infected, or symptoms to not begin to diminish, contact your physician immediately.
  10. Have your home/office inspected and treated for bed bugs - while this may seem cliche, the best treatment for bed bug bites is the extermination of the bugs themselves.
