"Deer" is a category of animals, not a single species. Some species (e.g. the White-tailed deer mentioned below and the Mule deer) are classified as "Least Concern" by the IUCR (which is as close as the IUCR ever gets to saying "those things? endangered? don't make me laugh"), though others such as the Hog deer are classified as endangered.
