Never, i repeat Never stare at a solar eclipse as it will burn the retina out of your head. that is where the moon blocks out the sun whereas a lunar eclipse is where the sun blocks out the moon and that is perfectly fine to look at!!

As highly-evolved, wise human beings, we can always find a way to make safe events

dangerous.

There's nothing about eclipses ... either lunar or solar ... that is inherently dangerous.

Unfortunately, during a solar eclipse, people have a tendency to stand there and stare

at the sun. Staring at the sun is dangerous and stupid whenever it's done.

A solar eclipse has no effect on the world at all, although it does provide conditions

that make some specialized scientific observations possible for a few minutes.

Why it is bad for us to look at the solar eclipse?

Because the solar eclipse is so bright that it can damage or even burn your eyes

Why is a solar eclipse bad?

There is nothing inherently harmful about a solar eclipse. The only problem is that you might be tempted to look at it. If you do this without proper protection, except at totality, the light from the sun can damage your eyes.

Does a solar eclipse occur on when the moon is new?

No. In order for a solar eclipse to occur, the Sun, Moon and Earth must line up precisely. Most of the time, the alignment is wrong and the shadow of the Moon points either "above" or "below" the Earth without touching it. Only about twice a year is the alignment close enough to have an eclipse. In many cases, the alignment is very close, and you have a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse just two weeks apart. In some years, like 2008, the alignment is particularly bad, so last year we had three PARTIAL solar eclipses and one annular eclipse instead of the typical two.

Are people afraid of solar eclipses?

More people can observe a Lunar eclipse than a Solar eclipse. This is because Lunar eclipses happen at night, last for hours and they are observable by everyone on earth who can see the moon while it is in eclipse.

Can people watch a solar eclipse?

It is possible for people to watch a solar eclipse; it may be part of a solar eclipse that they see or even the total eclipse. It is suggested not to look at it though since it is bad for one's eyes. So, special sunglasses help for that - not ordinary ones. With the naked eye, it will cause serious damage, and even blindness. Some common methods of avoiding this are watching through tree branches, so that most of the light is blocked, or buying special protective glasses. (Sunglasses won't do the trick).

Total solar eclipse good or bad?

Eclipses are neither good nor bad; they simply "are". They are perfectly natural phenomena, and we need to understand why and how they happen. Fortunately, they are quite simple and obvious if you take a long enough view. Personally, I like them; I think they make a pleasant change of pace, something different in the week.

Is it bad to look outside during a lunar eclipse?

It is o.k. to view a lunar eclipse, because unlike a solar eclipse you are not viewing direct sunlight which can be harmful and blinding but rather reflected light. When viewing a lunar eclipse you would see even less light than viewing a full moon which we know is safe.
