There are no restrictions on carrying a flat iron (a chi) in your carry-on luggage. Now if you're talking about a clothes iron, then I am not sure.
I carried my hair flattening iron internationally and never once did they stop to open my luggage or say anything in regards to the iron. To find out more information, you should go on the airline website you will be traveling with. Normally, they just state that you're not allowed to bring loose batteries, sharp objects such as pocket knives, and all your liquids must be in a 3 oz or smaller bottle and fit in one 10x10 inch ziplock bag. You are allowed only ONE ziplock bag per person.
