According to Hallmark’s corporate website, the majority of their greeting cards sold in the U.S. are produced in Lawrence, Kansas; in fact, 70 percent of their greeting cards worldwide are produced there. They do state that some cards that require additional handiwork, like the addition of tassels and beads, are made overseas, and at least some of their overseas manufacturing is in China.

Yes, unfortunately, some cards from Hallmark were made in Mexico for many years. However, as of early 2011, Hallmark Cards, Inc pulled production from Mexico due to rising violence in Northern Mexico. Many cards and other products, unfortunately, are made in China. Reason? Cost. It costs much less to manufacture in Mexico and China than in the United States. Hourly labor rates, taxes, health insurance costs, overhead, etc.... makes it difficult to manufacture in the U.S. However, today, Hallmark Cards still manufactures many greeting cards and other products in the U.S. Usually lower cost, non-handwork type cards and products. The quality is always very good and the company is continually cutting costs to keep those products made in the U.S.A.
