The main issue with majority of M-rated games is that they received that rating for a reason. If you are okay with exposing your child to the material on the M label, then by all means purchase it for him/her. Generally a video game will receive an M rating for one of four reasons (or a mix of the four). Those are Violence/gore, Sexual themes, strong language, drug/gambling references. It is also important to note that many of these games change dramatically online, as people often talk trash or use inappropriate language. It is strongly recommended that if your child is under 17, you should look into what parts of the game are violent. Sometimes the parts of the game can be turned off or skipped. Take, for example, Modern Warfare 2 (A popular first person shooter for most gaming systems). It contained a level where the player was required to massacre civilians at an airport; however the level could be turned off.

Actually they aren't that bad. No child under 17 is ALLOWED to buy it, but i know 5-12 year olds playing it. It does not screw you up, it shows you a good time. Some Deserve to be rated m but read why parents.

I would NOT let an 8 yr old or younger play it but i think if a 16 yr old is old enough to drive they are old enough for a rated M game.

AnswerI think that a 16 year old is old enough for a rated M game i say that because they are old enough to handle driving. Now as of ages younger than that No!

Watch out for Bias here: Most kids under 12 or 13 are easily impressionable, and would be desensitized to violence if they played M games. Plus, it's really embarrasing to lose an online M game to an 8-year old. On another note, M games are much more realistic, as opposed to designed-for-kids games. The real world element is there, and the kid is cooler in school because he/she plays Mature games. Also, *don't quote me on this*, if a kid wants to be in the army, studies show that playing Video Games improves reflexes. I'd imagine playing M games starting at a young age would prepare them for the army in terms of ability to think quickly. Actually moving quickly is another thing. One more thing: I find that people who play more M games than E or T games tend to use more harmful words. (aka they talk like a-holes and are a real pain to play with). Oh, and I agree, I don't think kids under 16 or 17 should play M games. They're rated M for a reason.

Answer from a 12 year old kid

I don't understand why this is a problem.

Yes and No

Now I know how you feel because I am I parent myself. My son always wanted to play M rated games and I told him no. He bugged me all the time about it and I saw how on researching. A video clip on YouTube how a kid had a sleepover about my sons age. His two friends were really giving him a hard time that he can't play M rated games and how he was a looser. I thought I don't want my kid feeling that way. But It did not change my mind one day my son walked up to me with a paper and explained the reasons why he should be able to play only some rated games. He said that Call of Duty series Medal of Honor and other FPS shooters you can turn off the blood, gore, and foul language I was interested he said he wont play bad games like GTA just the ones that you can turn blood off. He also explained how he had the maturity to know what's real or not and that he knows what the consequences are in real life rather than a game. It took me a day or so and I went told him we are going to GameStop to get the new Madden and what I did was let him choose any Game that is a ok M rated game to choose. He chose Call of Duty 4 which I paid for and showed me how it almost looked like a T rated game with blood off and I saw it and agreed. I kept one deal with him if it's GTA or any game that doesn't have blood off mode he can't buy it. later when he was about a year older I let's him play more games once he matured and finally on his birthday bought him GTA he was mature about it and always thanks me for letting him play M rated games

No. Unless they are mature, but that is beyond unlikely.

Of Course!!! 13 year olds are getting to the age when they are responsible enough to play "M" rated games, it will help them mature and learn about the world.
