For benefit purposes, those who enter into service as a reservist and have less than 90 days of active duty time are typically known as current members of the Armed Forces and do not normally qualify for veteran benefits. Those that have completed an active duty contract and then transfer into the reserves at the expiration or termination of his or her active portion of the contract are normally known as veterans.
