When I was in graduate school we had a mink that had been used in a non-lethal experiment and had become a pet of the grad students. I used to go and pet him occasionally because he was a beautiful furry animal who loved having his belly scratched. One day, the guy who ran the animal room came in while I was scratching him and asked if I wanted to watch him be fed. I was somewhat amazed when the caretaker held an open cage of white mice in front of the mink's cage door and faster than I could believe, the mink grabbed each mouse, bit its head off and deposited the bodies in his cage for later consumption. Needless to say, I was much more careful about petting him after I saw that.
