As goldfish are coldwater fish, oxygen is not the main problem in their tanks (unless they are overstocked). Most fish enjoy having plants in their tanks as a place to hide and to add interest. However, goldfish will often eat the plants. An air pump on its own will not do much except giving your fish a stream of bubbles to play in. However, for an extra $10 or so you can add a filter to the end of the airline. The bubbles will draw water through the filter. This will be far more beneficial to the goldfish than anything else. I strongly recommend putting bio balls or bio rings in the filter to remove the fish's waste more effectively. Goldfish are not suitable fish for very small or unfiltered bowls or tanks.
Pretty much any thing because they'll eat it
It is hard to breed goldfish in tanks. The best place is a pond or pool that contains some floating plants upon which the fish will scatter their sticky ova. Once the spawning has finished, the plants can be placed into aquaria for the hatching to take place.
