Most people believe that sociopathy is mainly caused by trauma in early childhood. It's unlikely that an adult would suddenly switch his/her opinions completely, and it is also unlikely that a baby would be born a sociopath.

Some psychologists explain sociopathy with a two-threshold model: a predisposition to sociopathy can exist at birth, and environmental factors can also push the personality in that direction. Someone with the predisposition is more vulnerable to the environmental factors. You can probably find a paper or two about this by Googling "sociopathy two threshold model."
