organic, simply because it contains carbon. plastics are hydrocarbons.

They do not, for the most part, biodegrade. Recently "Organic Plastics" have been introduced, which are made from renewable sources, not petroleum/fossil fuels.

Some plastic is, but most of it--because it's made from petroleum, which is full of carbon-based molecules--is organic.
