Many people will say that saltwater systems are as good for your pool as chlorinated systems. Saltwater systems are not as harsh on your pool system or for the people that enjoy the pool itself.

Is a pool's vinyl liner safe if a dog swims in it?

NO, NO , NO Donot let that animal in the water. My kids let the Bulldog in the water they had a great time but the nails when he came to the side to ge tout punctured the liner that I had to fix... We have a vinyl pool liner but we have steps which we have taught our dog to use to get out, so we don't have any problems. Our dog wears a dog life jacket for safety and we never leave him in or near the pool unattended.

Should you drain your pool when it is about to overflow?

You should never completely drain an above ground pool. The chemicals in the vinyl liner that allow it to stretch when originally installed do not last. If you drain the water, the liner will shrink and when you refill the pool there is a good chance that instead of stretching back the liner will rip instead. NEVER drain your pool.

How do you fix a vinyl pool that has no liner?

We are in the process of doing jsut that. We are replacing the liner and bottom of pool. We have the vermiculite bottom. We filled in the deep end of pool, due to water shortages, and are now trying to decide which liner to buy. I don't know anything about the sand bottoms but our bottom fell apart when we took the liner out. Hope this helps

Can you use cement to repair in ground pools that have a vinyl liner?

You absolutely can install concrete under a vinyl pool liner...however, if you have ground water it would not be a good idea due to hydrostatic pressure which can cause the concrete to heave and lift. Additionally, concrete is inherently rough, where other produces such as vermiculite (poolkrete) or a sand/portland cement mixture will serve as a more even surface. In my opinion, I would use poolkrete as it provides the ability for ground water to travel through it as well as providing a smooth surface and insulating properties. Good Luck!

How do you repair a horizontal crack on the fiberglass step of an inground vinyl pool?

July 16, 2006 - Lower the water level to the level of the cracked step; it is IMPERATIVE that you have a second person spray the pool liner as the water goes down to keep it wet. Use an underwater fiberglass / epoxy repair (buy the stuff that actually allows you to make the repair underwater) Make the repair quickly and wait no more than 30 mins for the repair to dry. Fill the pool back to regular level. I made my 1st repair underwater - it held for a couple of months but it turned very dark brown and started to peel. The 2nd patch I made with the water level down has lasted for 13 months so far. The most effective repair is a fiberglass mat repair. ($100) This will take at least 24 hours and will likely require a liner replacement as the liner may not make it 24hours without water. (Liner $1800 - $2800) It is true that you don't want to drain a vinyl liner pool but there are things you can do to minimize the risk of damaging your liner. Most of it depends on the age of your liner if it is 10 ~ 15 years your better off with a new one. If it is fairly new, drop the water level to 6" to 8 " in the shallow end. Untuck a portion of your liner in the shallow end on the opposite side of the steps (if on the side) insert a length of PVC pipe with holes drilled throughout ( about 5' ) between your liner and the wall. Attach a Shopvac ( if it is available Pro's use a Liner Vac ) to the end of the PVC pipe. Try your best to seal all gaps at the top of the liner and and where the PVC pipe connects to the Shopvac. If you have a good seal and a nice Shopvac it will suck the liner to the wall and hold it in place while the water level is low. I would only recommend this on days where the temps stay in the 70's because it makes the liner more supple.

What is the best way to repair an in ground pool liner after water gets behind it from the pool overflowing from heavy rain causing creases and bubbling?

I havew an inground vinyl liner pool that got water behind it from a leak. The walls started to bulge from all the water behind it. I was afraid I would need to drain the pool to fix the problem. But I was told to just use a shop vac and suck it out. What I ended up using was a submersible sump pump, and a garden hose. I ran the water back into the pool, and it seemed to work. You will need to pop off some of the beading to get the draining equipment of choice behind it. It isn't too dificult, and much cheaper than hiring a pro. BUT BEWARE make sure the equipment is out beofre the vinyl is sucked back to the wall, other wise you will need to find a way to remove it a very tight liner against it. (sound like advice from experience?) good luck!

Is Regent cruise liner any good?

The Regent cruise liner is a good choice because it has a great reputation that is not often advertised. The Carnival cruise liner is a better choice if you have children.
