When I was in training for Family Practice one of my senior Docs liked to say that all medicines are poison. The point being that all medications can have side effects and if taken incorrectly can cause damage or death. Tylenol is considered very safe by almost everyboby, but if taken in large doses (ie many times the recommended dose), it can destroy the liver and cause death. Several Chemotherepy agents are very real poisons and are thereby administered in very controlled circumstances. The nature of chemo is to kill off the cancer cells while limiting the damage to normal cells. The difficulty in this is manfested in what can be severe side effects during treatment.
Some over-the-counter medicines can be poisonous to the kidneys if taken regularly over a long period. Aspirin, acetaminophen and Ibuprofen have been found to be the most dangerous to the kidneys.
bromide
There are poison medicines. Suppose you are the one taking the medicine. You shouldn't overdose it or else the medicine could come poisonous. Suppose your not the one taking the medicine. The medicine is just lying on the table. Don't drink or eat it because you don't know if it's poisonous.
Arsenic is the poisonous element used in both medicines and rat poison. In controlled doses, arsenic is used in certain medications to treat certain medical conditions, while in larger quantities it is used as a rodenticide to kill rats and other pests.
Yes, some poisonous herbs are used in medicines. Often western medicines are based upon compounds found in natural substances, such as herbs. Not all medicine is based upon plants alone. Baldrian, or better known as Mandrake is a plant that has been used for centuries for its' sedating effect, very similar to naturally getting tired. It is known as a very poisonous plant, because an overdose of the herb is very poisonous and can lead to death. Dosing must be based very carefully upon weight and other details of a person before being administered. However baldrian is also available in tablets at pharmacies, where the poisonous element has been removed, making the herb relatively safe for home consumption. Most pharmacies are stocked and educated about herbal remedies and materials, and I highly reccommend talking with your pharmacist or doctor when considering herbs.
No. It is not poisonous. Some duckweeds yes, they are but some are not.
A medicine that is poisonous, but was once used for medical treatment is Warfarin or Coumadin. These are both medicines used to thin the blood, but are also used in rat poison. Ether is also poisonous and was used in surgery to put a patient to sleep.
No poisonous plants, keep medicines and chemicals inaccessible to children, keep cleaners in first containers, dispose of old medicines, avoid herbs not from reputable source, don't call medication candy.
Well, some are poisonous and some are edible to humans.
Yes and No, some seahorses are poisonous to keep their prey away and some seahorses are not poisonous.
All medicines and even some natural foods (eg peanuts) are potentially poisonous to some people and just as a peanut allergy may kill someone unfortunate enough to have a peanut allergy, some people will have a bad or fatal reaction to Ecstasy
