Yes, it has an oil pan. 85-early 87 pans are all the same. mid 87 - 88 pans are different. Timing covers and front engine mount brackets changed when the pans changed as well.
'87 2.8 V6 5spd averages about 25 MPG. 85 2.8 v6 se auto 3speed gets 18 city 26ish hwy
You probably have a cracked EGR tube The Fiero Store has replacements Google them
In the passenger cabin, under the dashboard on the passenger side.
It is behind the drivers head back wall by door opening
Right in front of the oil pan (2.8l) Disconnect the battery before getting a wrench close to the starter. The starter has a HOT battery cable runnign directly to it. Shorting this to the frame with a wrench might start a fire, blow up your battery, or both.
Physically, yes. GM's drivetrain are highly swapable. But there can be lots of differences. I'm assuming you are pulling "x" tranny out of an 84 to put in a 87 that had "x" tranny. Not pulling an "x" tranny out of an 84 to put in an 87 that had a "y" tranny. The devil's in the details. Flywheels might not be the same. Most auto part places have the info and will glad to help.
The 140 BHP base power will only be raised slightly (145 - 150) unless other modifications are made. Headers would gain the most as a next step and take advantage of the more aggressive camshaft
Assuming you are speaking of the front hood, and not the rear engine cover, yes, the 1987 hood will fit the 1984 Notchback. All front hoods are the same, 1984 through 1988. There is a vast parts interchangeability including exterior, interior, electrical, chassis, engine, and transmission, with the 84 through 87 models. Some changes were made in 1988, for instance larger brake rotors, better suspension, etc. so not as many parts are interchangeable with the 1988 and the other years.
