To get level select...
At the first level, go to the first trapeze thing and when on it, hit left left left, right right right, up, up, up. you'll here a ring sound. hit start and hit A to go to the menu. go down 3 times to find level select/sound test. go to the first mushroom hill. go to the first pulley thing that you can hang on and do the same code. go back to level select, hold A while selecting a stage. hit B to change, A to toggle Sprite, and X to make the sprite. this code works for EVERYONE. Also, the tv monitor makes sonic become hyper sonic and gives them 50 rings. Tails to super tails, and knuckles to hyper knuckles.

Why does knuckles fight with sonic?
There are various reasons why Knuckles and Sonic fight. Sometimes Dr. Robotnik, AKA "Eggman", tricks Knuckles into believing that he has turned good and that Sonic is in fact, the bad guy. When Knuckles first made his debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Dr. Robotnik tricked Knuckles into thinking that Sonic came to the island to steal the emeralds. Near the end of the game, Dr. Robotnik turns on knuckles by stealing the emeralds for his new weapon which Sonic and Knuckles teamed up to destroy. Since then, Knuckles has been a valuable ally for Sonic, when the two don't disagree. Another reason Knuckles and Sonic fight is because of their personality differences. Sonic is cocky, arrogant, and free spirited; Knuckles is stern, hotheaded, and quick to anger. Sonic frequently catches Knuckles at the worst times like when Knuckles is being flirted with, with that in mind Sonic taunts Knuckles on for days like an immature child. This also eggs on fights.
Is there really a hyper sonic?
Yes, but he only made one appearance. If you link together Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, you get Sonic 3 & Knuckles, a game that is a combo of the two, including all levels playable as all characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Sonic & Tails), and a new set of emeralds to collect on top of the chaos emeralds. These were the hyper emeralds. Collect them all and get 50 rings to unlock hyper sonic. Hyper sonic is super sonic but much faster, and with a double jump ability. You sacrifice your super sonic ability as you pursue the hyper emeralds. There is also a secret ending to the game with all of the hyper emeralds. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my all time favorite Sega game, and I've played all of the Sonics.

The games can be unlocked in two ways. The main way for unlocking them is to play a certain game or group of games a certain amount of times. This varies and is not specified, so the list is: Flicky- play Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine 30 times Ristar- play Blue Sphere, Knuckles in Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Flicky 30 times each. Blue sphere (lock-on game)- play Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic 3d Blast- Flickies island 20 times each. Knuckles in Sonic 2 (lock-on game)- play Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ans Sonic Spinball 20 times each Sonic 3 and Knuckles (lock-on game)- play Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles 20 times each There are also two games (comix zone and the ooze) that can be unlocked either by having a save of Sonic Heroes at any stage in the game on the same memory card or by playing each mega drive/genesis game 50 times each.
